GuideReviews Index

"X2: X-Men United" DVD
I'd never mistake X2: X-Men United for high art, but it is a thoroughly enjoyable movie. Read a review of X2: X-Men United on DVD.

"Daredevil" DVD Review
I found that Daredevil was an entertaining movie despite its flaws, including an unsatisfying dramatic line and a cute meet scene that's so over-the-top it's just plain goofy. Read a DVD review and overview of Daredevil. You can also find additional resources for this DVD movie such as trailers, a listing of DVD special features, and behind-the-scenes clips.

"Kill Bill Vol. 1" DVD Review
I have never been much of a fan of the grindhouse movies, but I found Kill Bill Vol. 1 enormously entertaining. Although I was aware of Quentin Tarantino's quirky genius from seeing his other movies, his Kill Bill Vol. 1 managed to amaze me with its sheer cinematic virtuosity.

"Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" DVD Review
This is an adventure movie aimed at grownups--although I expect many youngsters will like it as well--and it's the interactions among the men aboard a British warship that held my interest. I see this film as basically a drama in the humanist tradition, yet there are two exciting naval battle sequences and a spectacular storm at sea. Read a review of Master and Commander The Far Side of the World on DVD.

"Wrong Turn" DVD Review
Although this film did have a couple of moments that truly startled me, overall Wrong Turn was so predictable, campy, and over-the-top, it was a hard film to take seriously. Read a review of Wrong Turn on DVD.

"Dark Angel – Season One" Six-Disc DVD Set
Dark Angel is entertaining and especially good-looking on DVD. I liked the sci-fi noir feeling of Dark Angel, yet the overall story never completely drew me in. Read a brief DVD review and overview of Dark Angel – Season One on DVD.

"The Bourne Identity" DVD Review
I found The Bourne Identiy to be well-paced with exciting action sequences and charming European locations. If you’re just looking for pure entertainment, I highly recommend The Bourne Identity. Read a DVD review and overview of The Bourne Identity.

"Spider-Man" Two-Disc DVD Set
Spider-Man is a fun popcorn movie. I liked the first hour and the ending, although I was sometimes bored in between. Spider-Man is entertaining, and while I think it has minor flaws, I found it well-worth watching. And the two-disc DVD set is loaded with special features! Read Home Video/DVD Guide Ivana Redwine's review and DVD overview of Spider-Man.

"The Count of Monte Cristo" DVD
The Count of Monte Cristo is basically an entertaining, old-fashioned swashbuckler, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Read my DVD review and overview of The Count of Monte Cristo. You can also find about the special features on this DVD.

"The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" DVD Review
I found The Two Towers to be highly cinematic moviemaking and mythic storytelling. However, it's basically an action-adventure movie, and for me some of the action sequences became tedious.

"Signs" DVD
In spite of its corporate feel, Signs is very entertaining and has several jump-out-of-your-seat thrilling moments. Read a short review and DVD overview of Signs.
