Daniel Day-Lewis, Winona Ryder and Michelle Pfeiffer star in The Age of Innocence (1993), an absorbing and beautiful period piece directed by Martin Scorsese, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jay Cocks. The film is a faithful adaptation of the 1920 literary classic by Edith Wharton (1862-1937). Wharton's novel of manners is far removed from Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and GoodFellas, yet The Age of Innocence is one of Scorsese's best movies. Criterion has announced its plans to release a selection of movies in their collection on Blu-ray Disc. The releases will begin coming out in October 2008. The Blu-ray editions will include the same special features as the standard DVD editions and will be priced the same. Read more

A moving and often cinematically dazzling adaptation of Jean-Dominique Bauby's memoir, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly was nominated for four Academy Awards (directing, cinematography, editing and adapted screenplay).
