DVD Pick: The Age of Innocence
Wednesday May 14, 2008
Daniel Day-Lewis, Winona Ryder and Michelle Pfeiffer star in The Age of Innocence (1993), an absorbing and beautiful period piece directed by Martin Scorsese, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jay Cocks. The film is a faithful adaptation of the 1920 literary classic by Edith Wharton (1862-1937). Wharton's novel of manners is far removed from Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and GoodFellas, yet The Age of Innocence is one of Scorsese's best movies. Find out more about this film in The Age of Innocence DVD review.

DVD Pick: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Wednesday May 7, 2008
A moving and often cinematically dazzling adaptation of Jean-Dominique Bauby's memoir, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly was nominated for four Academy Awards (directing, cinematography, editing and adapted screenplay). The superb visual style of the film evokes the horror and beauty of Bauby's inner world as Schnabel interweaves the memories and reveries of a man afflicted with locked-in syndrome.
